AI and its impact on transport workforce

Just like in many other sectors, automation, digitalisation and the growing use of artificial intelligence are considered a revolution in the transport domain. AI offers great opportunities for efficiency, safety and sustainability, but it also raises critical concerns about jobs, skills and fairness in the transition.

A recent study on AI and its impact on the current and future transport workforce, authored by our AB Member Cristina Pronello (Politecnico di Torino) highlights a key challenge: AI is advancing faster than the workforce’s ability to adapt. Without adequate reskilling and upskilling strategies, this gap risks increasing inequalities across countries, sectors and generations.

At the ReSKILLING Project, we strongly relate to this message.

Contributing to the preparation of Europe’s transport workforce for technological change means putting people at the centre, strengthening social dialogue, and investing in lifelong learning to ensure a fair and inclusive transition into automation and digitalisation, including Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility.
