ReSKILLING at the 8th Conference On Sustainable Mobility (CSuM 2026)

We were pleased to participate in the 8th Conference On Sustainable Mobility (CSuM 2026), held in Skyros, Greece, contributing to the discussion on the future of transport work in the transition towards Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM).

Within the conference:

2. Irina Jackiva (Yatskiv) from the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI), Latvia, presented the paper titled “Human-Centred Approach to Reskilling in the Era of Transport Automation”,

1. Matina Loukea from the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) presented the work “The Future Transport Workforce in the CCAM Transition: Skills, Roles and Opportunities”.

Both contributions focused on how CCAM is expected to reshape employment structures, skills needs, occupational roles and work organisation across the transport value chain.

They also explored how a human-centred approach to digital upskilling can help future-proof the mobility workforce, ensuring that the CCAM transition remains inclusive, equitable and socially sustainable.

A key message emerging from both presentations was that the CCAM transition is not only a technological transformation, but also a workforce, skills and inclusion challenge.

Preparing the transport workforce for emerging and transformed roles requires accessible reskilling pathways, workplace-based learning, stronger evidence and policy support for a fair and socially sustainable transition. The discussions also highlighted the importance of ensuring that today’s transport workers can realistically benefit from future CCAM opportunities.
