We proudly inform we have identified eight Use Cases to examine the employment, skills and socio-economic implications of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) across the transport and mobility ecosystem. 

The Use Cases provide a well-structured framework for collecting and analysing evidence, and guiding our case studies, impact assessments and policy-support activities that ReSKILLING is developing. Together, the eight selected Use Cases reflect the various service, operational, infrastructure and workforce dimensions of CCAM deployment. 

Below, we are providing a short summary for these frameworks:

UC1: Urban and peri-urban passenger transport and digital mobility services addresses workforce transformation in urban and peri-urban passenger transport services, where automation, connectivity and digitalisation are reshaping the organisation and delivery of public and collective mobility. UC1 considers technological change within the broader operational and service-delivery environment of passenger transport, rather than focusing solely on vehicles.

UC2: Smart Logistics and Automated Freight Operations includes workforce transformations in urban logistics, last-mile delivery, warehousing interfaces and digitally coordinated supply chains. It examines how automation, connectivity, AI-supported planning and platform-based freight management are reshaping vehicle operations, and the wider service, coordination and the operational ecosystem in which freight transport is organised. 

UC3: Integrated Passenger–Freight Mobility Systems examines workforce transformation in contexts in which the two interact through common infrastructure, multimodal hubs, joint planning arrangements, digitally coordinated service flows, or new forms of urban and peri-urban transport organisation. It considers how automation and digitalisation increase integration between passenger and freight functions.

UC4: Shared, On-Demand and Micromobility Services covers bike sharing, e-scooters, demand-responsive transport, and other flexible or platform-mediated urban mobility solutions. Its primary focus is on service models organised around shared use, dynamic demand, and distributed fleet operations, and the use case examines how automation, connectivity and digitalisation reshape the operation, maintenance, coordination and customer-facing activities.

UC5: Smart Transport Infrastructure and Connectivity Systems focuses on the infrastructure layer of the transport ecosystem, rather than on passenger or freight service delivery, remote operations, or platform governance as such. The Use Case examines how automation and digitalisation are reshaping the planning, operation, monitoring and maintenance of transport infrastructure in urban, peri-urban and corridor settings.

UC6: Traffic Management, Remote Operations and Mobility System Supervision mainly looks at the control, oversight and coordination layer of the mobility ecosystem, including traffic management centres, remote supervision environments, and other settings in which mobility systems are monitored and managed in real time. It analyses the shift from direct physical control to supervisory, system-oriented and decision-support roles.

UC7: Automated Transport Systems Maintenance and Lifecycle Management examines how the workforce, skills and roles evolve within technical support and asset management functions as transport systems become increasingly automated, connected and digitalised. It studies the shift from predominantly mechanical and routine activities towards more predictive, software-enabled and data-supported practices. 

UC8: Mobility Data, Digital Platforms and Mobility Services, unlike the other Use Cases, cuts across multiple transport contexts. It focuses on the digital systems that enable coordination between actors and technologies across the transport ecosystem. It examines how CCAM reshapes work around data governance, platform management, interoperability, service coordination and data-driven decision-making.

The ReSKILLING Use Cases provide a coherent, evidence-based analytical framework for understanding how CCAM may transform work across different the mobility ecosystem. Overall, they serve as a key reference for the project’s activities and support our broader objective of contributing to a fair and forward-looking socio-economic transition to CCAM.
