Within the framework of the 25th International Conference “Reliability and Statistics in Transportation and Communication (RelStat-2025)”, a thematic workshop titled “Knowledge Transfer” was organized by Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) and the Association “Women in Transport” (Latvia).
The section focused on sharing experience and fostering the development of new competencies required for the green and digital transformation of the transport sector.
The event gathered more than 40 female representatives from academia, public administration, transport and logistics organizations, and the private sector, and was opened by Mr. Atis Švinka, Minister of Transport of Latvia.
A central part of the workshop was devoted to the Horizon Europe project ReSKILLING, which contributes to the adaptation of the future workforce to the challenges of automation and digitalisation in the transport sector. Dr. Matina Loukea, Project Coordinator from the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT/CERTH), presented the project’s objectives, mission, and expected outcomes, emphasizing its role in supporting skills development and inclusive employment in the context of transport innovation.

The themes of the ReSKILLING project - empowering the European mobility workforce to adapt to automation and innovation through inclusive, sustainable, and skills-based approaches -closely resonated with the focus of the section, which addressed connected and automated mobility (CCAM), workforce transformation, gender inclusion, and digital skills development.
Many other exciting topics have been presented and discussed, including the following research topics: “Sustainable Transport Literacy: Definitions, Conceptual Frameworks and Assessments”, showcased by TSI Lead researcher Dr. N. Spiridovska; and “Shore-Side Electricity: Benefits versus Costs”, presented by Member of The Board of AS Riga Port J. Bērziņa, etc.
To further engage participants, a dedicated survey was conducted by Prof. Dr. Irina Jackiva and Karina Timofejeva (TSI) titled “Shaping the Future Workforce: CCAM Impacts and Business Models” fostered dynamic discussion among special users’ group - women. Participants identified existing skill gaps, reflected on future challenges, and contributed to a survey exploring the effects of CCAM deployment on employment and women’s participation in the evolving mobility ecosystem.
The workshop and survey activities served both as a dissemination and stakeholder engagement exercise under the ReSKILLING project and as a platform for mutual learning. The discussions underlined the project’s significant contribution to developing new competencies essential for sustainable and inclusive workforce transformation in the transport sector.
By bringing together experts from research, government, and industry, the event strengthened cooperation among stakeholders and reinforced collective efforts toward smart, inclusive, and sustainable transport solutions.
